DHL Industrial Projects Awarded Prestigious Saudi Kayan Olefins Project

DHL Industrial Projects has been awarded the prestigious Saudi Kayan Olefins Project by Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Company. DHL Industrial Projects will manage the turnkey logistics for the overall project on a door-to-door basis. This includes numerous heavy lift cargoes, some weighing in excess of 800 metric tons and 75 meters in length, which will be shipped from worldwide origins to the project site.

DHL Industrial Projects UK, Singapore and Namma Cargo, DHL's in-Kingdom partners in Saudi Arabia, collaborated in developing the project jointly. Freight revenue from the project is estimated at US $57 million over the duration of the project. The project is a milestone in the company's history and is the largest project to be awarded to the Industrial Project Division of DHL. The Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) will be managed by KBR Singapore. DHL Industrial Projects will execute the project from Singapore.

Saudi Kayan is building a 4 million tons per annum petrochemical complex. Located in Al Jubail Industrial City, the complex is due to become operational during 2010. Products will include ethylene, propylene, polypropylene, ethylene glycol and butane-1.

At the beginning of 2006, Sabic announced that it was planning to establish a partnership with Kayan Petrochemicals to build a world-scale petrochemical complex. An initial memorandum of understanding was signed in January 2006. As well as expanding the range of products produced in Saudi Arabia, Saudi Kayan intends to establish an applications center which will focus on the development of industrial products and applications.

DHL Industrial Projects is a division within the Global Forwarding Group. The division manages turnkey logistics for projects in oil & energy, chemicals, power, mining and industrial infrastructure. This incorporates the management and movement of all materials from worldwide origins on a multi-modal basis to the final destination at the project site at the country of destination.
